![]() ![]() The bridge "January to" uh.November? December? I can't remember uses the same rhythm as the verse, only cut in half and starting a fifth higher.extremely cool. And, of course, Hal David knows a bit about songwriting LOL. Archie Jordan wrote country, rock and r&b like they were all the same thing, lots of flow, nothing complicated. A lot of Steinman's work is very story oriented. I actually brought a spray bottle and toilet paper to the theater for the Rocky Horror Picture Show Again, it's the performance. Terrill, Yeah, I love the theatrical rock of Meatloaf. The lyrics don't tell a story, though they are concrete and understandable, but the marriage of the words, music, and performance "make" the song. It has the traditional theme in country and rock of the "cautionary tale." Don't love me, cause I'm a rambler etc. It mixes metaphors and simlies while it presents a "laundry list." It still has concrete images (I love "let go like a levee breaks" and "Goodbyes are like a roulette wheel, you never know where they're gonna land"), and uses a lot of alliteration. ![]() ![]() Stevens, Better as a Memory is part of a movement in modern country that is breaking the rules. There are many more songs "I love" and the list might surprise you in that the genres would be very diverse. I guess I "learned" now that simple can and does work so maybe I'm on the right path. I can't say I "learned" to write simply from these songs, I just naturally wrote in that style anyway. I have always written in a simple style so maybe that is another reason I love these songs. Why? Both have simple yet beautiful lyrics and a melody that grabs my heart. These are definintely the top 2 and #1 is #1 I love the song but only Frank can sing "My Way" in a way that sets it apart from others. It is hard to separate the song from the singer who delivered the song in the way that made and kept it my favorite.Įxample: if somebody else besides Frank Sinatra did "My Way" it just wouldn't be the same. In other words, if I take a song I love but it's sung by someone other than the artist who made it a hit, then the song may not be my favorite. Mind you, the songs I mention are my favorites when the song is performed by that certain artist. Like the others I love sooooo many, but your question said "some". ![]()
